The 8 Best Multi Speaker Attachments for the Amazon Echo Dot

The Best Echo Dot Speakers

The Amazon Echo Dot is one of the most bang-for-your-buck smart home systems.

It offers portability, power, and versatility. It’s also a budget-friendly choice, so it’s a great starter device for anyone who wants to build a smart home.

But it has one weakness: Audio.

The Echo Dot’s sound is a complaint that owners often voice, and it makes sense––at $50 for a brand new device, the Echo Dot isn’t going to have first-rate speakers.

For some people, it’s not an issue, but others want to be able to have a rich music listening experience or make the overall audio a bit clearer.

So we’ve assembled a list of top 8 speakers for the Amazon Echo Dot. Whether you’re a hardcore audiophile or a casual user who just wants something a bit more, we’ve got a speaker for you.

Here are some of the best Amazon Echo Speakers:

Budget: Anker SoundCore and Anker SoundCore 2

Anker is a relatively new company, but it’s already made headlines for offering affordable tech accessories.

The SoundCore speakers are no exception.

Priced at $29.99, the Anker SoundCore is a portable Bluetooth speaker that brings a noticeable audio upgrade to the Echo Dot. Dual high-performance drivers power the device, and it lasts up to 24 hours on a single charge.

Anker claims that the SoundCore has less than 1% harmonic distortion. That means it gives you a more pleasant audio experience without harsh frequencies or clipping.

At $39.99, the Anker SoundCore 2 has a little more to offer. It features upgraded drivers and more pronounced bass frequencies.

It’s also certified IPX5 water resistant and dustproof, which is a nice bonus feature.

Both have received positive customer reviews, and at the price, it’s hard to go wrong with either of the SoundCores.

While the SoundCores don’t have the best audio on the market, they certainly give you better quality than the Echo Dot. If you’re on a budget but want an upgrade, either of the SoundCores is ideal for you.

Entry Level: Sony XB10 or Bang & Olufsen Beoplay S3

If you have a little more to spend, both the Sony XB10 and the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay S3 are fantastic options.

The Sony XB10 currently goes for $58. It’s a small cylindrical speaker that looks a lot like the Echo Dot, so they pair well together in terms of aesthetics.

In terms of specs, it’s similar to the SoundCore line. It has 16 hours of battery life, strong bass presence, and IPX5 waterproof certification.

The Bang & Olufsen Beoplay S3 is a bit more expensive at $106, but it delivers a more organic sound than any of the options we’ve covered so far.

Bang & Olufsen have been manufacturing high-end audio equipment for 92 years, and that experience is evident in the Beoplay S3. It’s also well designed––the speaker has a somewhat funky shape, but it’s not too distracting.

The XB10 is best for consumers who want an entry level speaker with none of the frills, while the Beoplay S3 is perfect if you want more premium Echo Dot speakers at a higher entry-level price.

Mid-level: JBL Charge 3 or UE Megaboom

Most of the Echo Dot speakers we’ve reviewed so far have been on the quieter side. But once you get into the more mid-level speaker range, you’ll get options that are considerably louder.

The JBL Charge 3 ($129) is still portable but can produce a lot of volume and retain sound clarity at louder volumes. With 20 hours of listening time and 20 watts of volume available, the Charge 3 is a flexible choice if you want a speaker that can handle multiple listening situations.

It has overwhelmingly positive reviews, and it’s considered a standby for its combination of affordability and performance.

At the higher end of the mid level price point, there’s the formidable UE Megaboom at around $214. This speaker is another unassuming unit that looks like the Echo Dot, but it’s capable of a lot more than any other speaker in its range.

UE claims that the device produces “freakishly amazing 360-degree sound with deep, heart-pounding bass.” While that might be a bit of an exaggeration, the Megaboom can indeed put out a full range of sound and get plenty loud.

It’s also IPX7 waterproof, and it’s impressively portable considering how loud it can get. If you’re looking to fill up a room (or a few) with crisp sound, the Megaboom is hard to beat.

UE also sells the regular Boom, which isn’t as powerful. However, it has some nice features for its price range, and you can even use it alongside the Megaboom if you want.

Premium: Bose SoundLink Revolve+ or Sonos PLAY:5

Bose is a household name when it comes to speakers. The company is known for its high-end offerings, and its newest speakers are no exceptions.

At first, the SoundLink Revolve+ ($299) seems like any other portable Bluetooth speaker, but its sound and build quality set it apart.

Bose has developed a specific sound profile over the years, and the SoundLink Revolve+ delivers that classic Bose sound. If you’ve used any Bose devices before, you’ll like the SoundLink.

Its clear, full sound is the best reason to buy the SoundLink. It’s less portable than some other speakers, but you can still drag it around with ease.

And at the highest echelon of Echo Dot speakers, there’s the prestigious Sonos PLAY:5 speaker.

The Sonos is a bit different from other speakers. For one, it’s not particularly portable, so it would be less than ideal for situations where you want to listen on the go. It’s also designed with the most premium sound quality in mind, and the $500 price tag reflects that.

It’s important to note that while the PLAY:5 doesn’t have direct integration with the Echo Dot, you can use a workaround to integrate the two.

If you’re after the ultimate Echo Dot speaker, the PLAY:5 is what you want. It has six speakers, each with their own dedicated driver, and it delivers excellent sound quality. While it costs a pretty penny, none of the other Echo Dot speakers can match its features and caliber.

Conclusion

The Echo Dot is one of our favorite smart home devices, but it could use an audio boost. You can’t go wrong with any of these Echo Dot speakers to upgrade and give yourself a much better audio experience.

Which of these Echo Dot speakers are you going to get?
