The LUX Kono Smart Thermostat

The Lux Kono smart thermostat is a sleek modern looking Thermostat that works with most smart home devices. It’s priced very fairly and an excellent addition to almost any smart home. If you’re looking for a smart thermostat for your home…. this is probably it.

You can control your entire home from this Smart thermostat — connect it to your smart home network and even control it from your phone anywhere through your phone (it doesn’t matter if you’re on the other side of the world).

And if you haven’t heard of Lux, they have thermostats in over 15 million homes in the United States, so they are not new to this game and have a long history of producing quality products.

Function

The LUX Kono is a smart thermostat — with a ton of cool features.

The main function is that it connects to all major smart home setups — including Google Assistant (Google Home), Apple Homekit (Apple), and Amazon Alexa (Amazon Echo) ensuring that it will work with almost every setup out there. We’ll talk about this more later in this post.

One of the cooler things is that you can control it from anywhere with the LUX mobile app on your phone. Anywhere that your phone can get access to the internet is a place that you can control your air conditioning at your house. You can control the target temperature, set cooling and heating schedules, view runtimes, and alter settings. If you want to heat your home before you get there or make sure you did turn off the air conditioner today, this is a great way to do it.

Features

You can even add multiple thermostats to the device if you have more than one property that you want to watch (your vacation rentals for example) or if your house is huge. Keep the bottom floor cool while you let the second story heat up if no one is going up there at all.

Another really cool thing radius geofence, which automatically changes the settings when you are a certain distance from your home. You can set it up so the AC turns off when you’re away from your house.

The Home away and aware gives you savings on your electricity bills instead of having your system run all day while you are gone. There’s even a utility bill estimator to get a grasp on what your bill will be before you even get it.

Of course since it can connect to your smart home hub you can always say “Alexa turn the temperature up  The hardest part of this whole process is decide if it is easier to yell aross your house at Alexa or simply open your phone to change the temperature.

There’s even more to the Lux Kono, but as you can see from above it can do almost anything you need it to to control your home temperature very effectively.

Appearance

I received the LUX along with 6 color faceplates. The faceplates make it clear that you can match the LUX Kono with any interior design — and if they don’t have your color they actually give you the ability to paint a blank cover. The colors include: True White, Sea Green, Deep Blue, Hibiscus Red, Mightnight Black, and “Paint-It” any color so it can match your home.

This is obviously a method to ensure that everyone can match color schemes — and if they don’t have your color you are able to match it yourself.

LUX has always had good thermostats — however the Kono is their (very) successful attempt at a smart visually appealing thermostat with a cool sleek modern look.

Here’s some of the different color faceplates that you can get:

LUX Kono

The thermostat itself has a very sleek look that would go very well with most modern looking homes, especially the sleek “luxury” look that a lot of homes are currently going with.

Compatibility

The LUX Kono works with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and Apple Homekit and has a very sturdy design. The sample I was sent has clear instructions to connect it to a c-wire and your smart home device.

The LUX Kono is able to control your forced air, gas, oil, and electric furnaces and heat pump systems. It is powered by the C-Wire or LUX Power Bridge — giving a lot of flexibility in where you want to set it up in your house.

It will probably work with almost all smart home setups, unless you managed to set up your smart home WITHOUT a Google Home, Amazon Echo, or Apple Homekit. Even without a hub you can still control it from the app on your smart phone.

Price

The price point is lower than the Ecobee thermostat as well as other competitors on the market  — making it an excellent choice for those who are budget conscious. In fact, the pricing makes it attractive to be part of any smart home setup even if there is not a huge budget.

The price range makes this very competitive for almost all smart home setups.

Conclusion

The Lux Smart Home thermostat is perfect for anyone looking for a high quality smart thermostat for their house without breaking the bank. From the ease of connecting with your current smart home setup to the streamlined ability to control the temperature in your house it is a great choice.

The compatibility and ability to use it with most smart home hubs as well as the smart phone on your app makes this an excellent choice if you are looking for a smart thermostat.

How does this thermostat compare to large brand smart thermostats like Hive and Nest which are pushing the boundaries of smart homes?

At first Glance the LUX is a little less expensive then the others. All good choices but often it comes down to if you want to shell out more money for a product that might have more features or warrant the higher price.
