Smart Plugs allow you to things like power devices with your voice (anything that can be plugged into a socket) as well as schedule when things turn on or off. You can time things to turn on at sunset, sunrise, or power on or off before or after you generally leave your house. You can use it to control our coffee maker or even your smart home security system.
Most of these locks are extremely easy to control and connect with a simple connection to the Wifi network and then sync to the smart home device that you are using. Some of the smart plugs are more versatile than others, with some working with only Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa and others working with a whole variety of products.
We’ve outlined some of the best smart plugs that we have found on the market to give you an idea what is out there if you’re considering purchasing smart plug(s) for your home.
What to Consider When Buying a Smart Plug
There are a few things that are important to consider when looking at buying a smart plug. There have been a lot of startups in the smart home space (which are not proven brands) so looking at established brand is always better until the new company has a lot of reviews.
For example, if I was looking at a Wemo Smart plug and a company I have never heard of before with not too many good reviews, I would go with Wemo because their product is almost guaranteed to be of good quality. That is not to say the other product is not good, but it might be a better idea to let someone else be the guinea pig instead of wasting your time.
